Cheque for $1000 from my work. I have now raised my minimum commitment with just over 3 weeks to go b4 the 2 day ride to Seattle. And now I have developed an Achilles tendon problem after Monday’s long ride. I have lowered my seat 1cm, but will also take a few days off. Hate lowering the seat cause the quads felt sooo good. Meanwhile, ice, ice, ice, and anti inflammatories!!
edit: on further investigation, I believe the cleats may need positioning back. Going in for a bike fit / cleat fit next week!!

Yes, I think fenders are next on my shopping list. 20 of us started out at 8:30 this morning and it was already raining. It rained all day (at times a torrential downpour!!).
We stopped for a wonderful buffet lunch at a golf club, then headed out again in the pouring rain to tackle some serious hills. The golf club was most gracious as we were all very gritty, and soaked to the skin!
The last few miles were ridiculously wet. Giant raindrops of the monsoon variety. With merely a few miles to go, one of the ladies got a flat. Half the group stayed back to help out. Moments later, another flat for one of the fellows who helped change the first tire. He opted out of changing a 2nd tire and sent his wife ahead to fetch the car. Smart decision.
Happy Victoria Day!!
(It stopped raining an hour after I got home.)
First “clipless fall”. I’ll spare the graphic results. Random thoughts:
- How embarrassing, this happened outside the bike shop!!
- How fortunate, this happened outside the bike shop, as one of my hoods needs twisting back into place.
- If my bike is gonna fall over, thank goodness my body was there to protect it!
-Damn, the left clip is tight. Had to take my shoe off and leave it on the pedal, just so I could stand up.
-Yes, I will climb that giant hill on the way home & set a personal best!! (and I did!!)
I should ride my bike today, and then the next day, and the next, and the next …..

Rode 100km fundraiser today, then got to hang out with Steve Darling from Global TV :) Major highlight of my day! The event raised over $95,000 for endoscopy equipment for our local hospital.
Question: I’m doing 100km charity ride on Sunday (62miles), which will take me about 5 hours (I’m pretty slow). So, should I ride today or Saturday. I’m thinking a nice light 1 hour spin. Thoughts?
Was walking out the door with a box of clothes for charity when it dawned on me that there were a bunch of my sons old t-shirts in there. WHAT WAS I THINKING!! Sorry thrift store. You can still have the pants and sweaters, but my bike needs the shirts to keep it clean and shiny.
Went out for a training ride on Saturday with the club. Unfortunately I was only able to get 4 hours sleep beforehand (work, ya gotta eat, right?)
Most of the group did 95km, but I took a break halfway thru while they went off on an extra 12km loop.
Felt pretty good afterwards, legs a little rubbery, and my forearms were a bit tired. Previous longest ride was just over 50km.
This Sunday is a 100km charity ride for Eagle Ridge Hospital. These longish rides are starting to feel like ‘no big thing’.
The time commitment to build up to these distances was probably the bigger deal, but physically I feel good.
46 days until Vancouver, BC to Seattle for The Ride to Conquer Cancer!!!!!
Just ate a cliff bar for the first and last time. It was pretty gross. I’ll stick to my PB granola bars for my mid ride break from now on. And of course my GU Chomps. They’re delicious!!
I know this because my local bike shop knows me by name.
True story.

18 miles: no big thing
1800 feet: OMG the person who suggested this route couldn’t make it to our Ladies Only ride. I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE!!!!!!!
